Governor Newsom Signs Transit Safety Bill Championed By Senator Min and Stop AAPI Hate
(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill (SB) 434, ‘Public Transit for All: Improving Safety & Increasing Ridership,’ into law. The legislation is the culmination of a multi-year effort led by Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) and Stop AAPI Hate to boost public safety across California’s 10 largest transit agencies. SB 434 requires each agency to collect comprehensive survey data to help extract the leading causes of street harassment as part of a larger strategy to revive ridership levels and incentivize more Californians to ride public transit.
